- From elementary school onwards, they take school trips to go hiking and camping. The students connect with nature this way because they live in a city on a day to day basis.
- National and local environmental organizations that promote conservation and create reserves for various endangered and threatened animals in the area.
- Learned about endangered animals in school and are educated in basic ecology

- The students learn about current environmental events mostly out of the classroom
- Recent issue: factory part of town caused a death from a polluted river- this caused a surge for environmental regulations.

A Global Student, Emma Geller, went to Costa Rica this past summer on a service trip with the GLA Program. There, she was able to work on a reforestation station in the dry forest of Guanacaste, as well as explore the rainforest. Reforesting plays a huge role in increasing habitat stability both in Costa Rica and even locally in New England. She learned of tactics to incorporate the community in preserving the environment around them. Many Costa Ricans were passionate about the land and animals, and felt they were very much a part of their larger family. Here are some of the pictures accumulated from her trip.
